School Board Minutes 11/21/2013
November 21, 2013
                        
                        A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Nicole Plourde, Lynn Moore, Louise Valliere, Donald Labrecque, Kenneth Proulx, Corinne Cascadden, Bryan Lamirande, Amy Huter, Julie King, Gary Bisson, Dan Record, Roland Pinette, Cheryl Pinette, Denise Valerino, Gary Peters, Sara Peters, Amber Pinette, Jane LeBlanc, Kim Allain, Debbie Beaudoin, Susanne Styles, Lucille Lambert and member of the press.

MINUTES         On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Kenneth Proulx, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the November 7, 2013 meeting, public and nonpublic sessions. The motion passed unanimously.

WARRANT         On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to approve the warrant dated, November 25, 2013 for the amount of $81,132.70. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

FINANCIAL REPORT        The Board reviewed and approved the financial report.

COMMENTS                The following parents were disappointed with the lack of school communication to assist them with the prevention and treatment of head lice; Sarah Peters, Gary Peters, Denise Valerino, Amber Pinette and child care worker Kim Allain.

AREA AGREEMENT  Louise Valliere and Donald Labrecque updated the Board on the AREA Withdrawal Committee’s compromise on a three year extension of the current AREA Agreement pending State Board approval. This agreement would expire in June 2018 if approved.
                                        
SUPER’S REPORT  The Superintendent informed the Board of the following issues:

  • Statistical Trends of Student Population
  • Professional Development Days
COMMENTS                None
                        
NEW BUSINESS            Kenneth Proulx thanked the parents for expressing their concerns and asked that the district lice policy be placed on the next agenda.
                        Nicole Plourde agreed with Kenneth Proulx and asked the Superintendent to review
the district lice policy with the audience, she also instructed her to review it with the school nurses.
                        Louise Valliere requested the school nurses be present at the next School Board meeting.
                        Nicole Plourde directed the Superintendent to assure that all schools notify parents regarding head lice and bed bugs.                                                  

STAFFING                The Board accepted the resignation of Speech Assistant, Jeannette Rivard.
                                                                                                        
ADJOURN         On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 6:33 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
